How to Get the Best Driving Practice
Now that you have just gotten your driver’s license, you probably want some extra driving practice to learn how to drive in everyday situations. It’s not too difficult to do this; however, you shouldn’t do it on your own the first few times. You want to make sure that you get accustomed to the driving conditions in your area. There are several things you need to do when you want to practice your driving.
The parking lot is good driving practice. The reason why you should start in the parking lot is because, typically, a parking lot is not a high traffic area. You probably first drove around a parking lot when you first learned to drive, however, your driver’s ed car might be different from the car you will be driving. For example, your car might be a bit bigger or smaller. Furthermore, every car is configured differently. The reason why you need extra driving practice in the parking lot is so you can familiarize yourself with your new car.
Practice driving in the streets with someone who is more experienced in regular driving for the first two weeks before you start driving yourself. This is also very good driving practice to get familiar with local traffic conditions. While driving with a more experienced driver, you will be able to learn how to deal with the different traffic situations that happen on a daily basis.
For example, you might be crossing an intersection where some idiot decides to run a red light and almost causes an accident. When driving with an experienced driver, you will learn how to best avoid an accident in such a situation. Furthermore, you will get accustomed to the local traffic flow. This is very important, because local traffic differs from area to area. When you are practicing on everyday streets, you will get accustomed to the traffic. In a big city, for example, traffic can be a bit more dicey than in rural areas.
Practice driving on the highway or interstate. You don’t necessarily have to take a three-day road trip if you don’t want to, but driving on the interstate is very good driving practice, since you might have a long commute on the interstate when you commute back and forth to work. Drive to the nearest big city if possible. If a large major city is not close by to where you live, the nearest large metropolis. This way you can practice how to drive in big city traffic.
There are several ways you can get good driving practice when you have just gotten your license and you should take the time to practice you’re driving. It usually takes a couple of weeks before you will realize that you will be driving on your own and finally feel independent.
